About Wired Woman

Incorporated in 1996 and originally launched in Vancouver, B.C. by Emma Payne and a group of like-minded visionary women, Wired Woman is a Canadian registered non-profit society with a mission to encourage women to explore opportunities, build successful careers, and become a driving force in science, technology and new media.

We achieve our mission by establishing a strong network of national volunteers who design, develop and deliver monthly programs to members and the community at-large. These programs are overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors leading activities in Toronto and Vancouver, and the corporate sponsors who partner with us. Programs and activities support the three goals of the society: networking, education and mentoring.

Our vision is to empower women in the science, technology and new media fields by providing opportunities to network, grow and share through quality one-on-one mentoring.

In 2008 Wired Woman adopted a fresh, new logo, which is symbolic of the way the society has matured and evolved over the past 10 years. It is also symbolic of some exciting changes in our future. Most significantly, Wired Woman will no longer charge annual membership dues. Our intention is to attract as many talented, interesting women in technology as possible, to grow our community and to provide forums for everyone to interact with each other, without the barrier of an annual fee.

This past summer also brought with it the good news that another winning bid for financial sponsorship was made by the BC Government. In addition, we launched a new mentorship program in partnership with the MicroSkills Development Centre in Toronto. The easiest way to advance in your career is to learn from those who have already done it; this is why, with a focus on mentorship, our networking events will be even more valuable than before.
